Arctic Fresh Construction Projects

Building Capacity in the North

A Different Approach to Construction in Nunavut

We involve youth, elders and the other members and businesses within our communities to ensure solutions are Northern-driven. But the Arctic Group’s mission goes beyond community consultation. We must focus on ensuring the people in our communities are an integral part of these local projects now and into the future.

Rhoda Angutimarik, Owner of Arctic Fresh Projects, recently visited the Sanikiluaq building to check on the finishing touches.

Sanikiluaq Women’s and Children’s Shelter

Nestled in the community of Sanikiluaq, near the coast of Quebec, lies the construction site of a new Women’s and Children Shelter. This new facility provides the Hamlet of Sanikiluaq the ability to offer these much-needed shelter and support for its community.

Arctic Fresh Projects is proud to be a part of bringing such an important service to the people of Sanikiluaq.

Arctic Fresh Group significantly surpasses the minimum requirement of having 20% Inuit participation in Nunavut construction projects. Even more than that, we work to increase the number of skilled trades workers and not just general labourers on our sites.

Sanikiluaq Local Housing Office

The Sanikiluaq Local Housing Office (LHO) is a new facility located in a remote community in Nunavut near the coast of Quebec in the Hudson Bay.

This new local housing office will serve as the primary administrative, maintenance and storage infrastructure for the Hamlet of Sanikiluaq and Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC).

The building consists of an office section built upon a multipoint foundation system with maintenance shop and an attached garage.

Building from a strong foundation
ensures a successful future.

Sakku School Addition and Renovation

This construction projects includes a total renovation of an aging structure. The complete renovation of the existing school will bring the building up to current building and insulation standards.

This includes an addition to the school to increase capacity as well as the construction of a new Community Learning Centre for the Nunavut Arctic College.

Collaboration is the key, and through partnerships with experts, governments, and our communities we make a greater impact on the world we live in.

Aqqusariaq Addiction and Trauma Center

The Construction of this much-needed center in Iqaluit represents a significant advancement in community health resources. This new facility will offer a comprehensive suite of services designed to support recovery and mental well-being in a culturally sensitive environment.

The center’s design, deeply rooted in Inuktitut traditions, embodies the journey toward healing and recovery.

Increasing Affordability while Building Capacity

Turning abandoned buildings into affordable homes is an ingenious way to tackle the increasing demand for housing.

Not only does this initiative contribute to the goal of increased capacity but repurposing existing structures saves them from deterioration and reduces costs to positively impact the lives of those who need it most.
